JoCo Flow - Inaugural Edition

Local stories, good vibes, and upcoming events in and around Johnson County.

🗒️ A Note from the Editor

Hey JoCo -

After months of behind-the-scenes scheming, playlist-making, and way too many “wait, should I actually do this?!” moments… JoCo Flow is here. This is your zero-stress source for what’s good around Johnson County. No bad vibes, no doomscrolling, and no politics—just cool stories, real people and places, and a few ideas for your next day off.

This isn’t traditional news. It’s more like that one neighbor who always knows where the good food is, what’s going on around town, and maybe talks a little too much about the lawn-hygiene of the house next door.

Got a local hidden gem we should feature? Want to shout out someone doing cool stuff in the community? Email me. This thing works better when it flows both ways. I want to personally thank you for being a part of the beginning of this.

Y’all be good now—just not too good.

📍The Standard at Chisenhall
🍽️ Cuisine: Modern American (with a twist)

Chefs Denise Shavandy and Christopher Brockington at American Revelry are flipping the script on Johnson County’s food scene with a scratch-made menu that takes you on a “culinary road trip through America”.

🗣️ Overheard in JoCo

“If they want you to cook them in batches of six, why don’t they sell them in multiples of six! 20 taquitos - I’m supposed to make three batches with 2 leftover??”

✍🏼 Dear Flow…

Dear Flow,

My neighbor’s tree branches are hanging over the fence in my backyard. I’ve mentioned it politely, but nothing’s been done. How can I address this without causing drama?

— Frustrated in Burleson

Dear Frustrated,

Ah, the classic neighborly dilemma! In Texas, you generally have the right to trim branches that cross your property line, but only up to the boundary. Before grabbing those pruning shears, try one more friendly conversation - perhaps suggesting how you would handle the situation in an advice-like tone. Sometimes a solution-oriented approach works wonders! If that doesn’t help, check your local ordinances, as they may provide specific guidance. Remember, good fences (and well-trimmed trees) make good neighbors!
